R 1200 GS
One R 1200 GS. One mission: the best GS of all times.
The BMW R 1200 GS – the icon among all travel enduro bikes. Since 1980 “the GS” has defined its segment and has proved a trusty companion on every motorcycle adventure. BMW Motorrad is now writing a new chapter in the success story by further perfecting the icon that is the R 1200 GS.
One R 1200 GS. One feeling: power for every situation.
High-performance, smooth-running and high revving. The R 1200 GS is powered by a newly conceived 2-cylinder boxer engine delivering 125 bhp (92 kW). Based on a new cooling concept – a combination of air and liquid cooling – and with vertical flow through the cylinders, the engine operates efficiently, reliably and with high pulling power at all times. Further improvements such as the new wet clutch with anti-hopping function, the electromotive throttle actuator and the optional riding modes make the boxer engine the perfect power unit at the heart of the new R 1200 GS.
One R 1200 GS. One emotion: supreme control.
The new R 1200 GS is equipped for every terrain. The reason: a more rigid main frame and an enhanced Paralever and Telelever make for even greater enduro steering accuracy. The optional Dynamic ESA configures the suspension automatically to suit terrain and load. And the GS provides even more functions with the optional riding modes – a set of four different configurations that can be retrieved at the press of a button. The shift assistant Pro enables the rider to shift up and down without using the clutch or throttle valve. The reduced shift time means the rear wheel retains even better directional stability.
One R 1200 GS. One impression: striking individual flair.
The new version is just as much a genuine GS at first sight, too: robust, dynamic and full of character. Reworked surfaces and a perfect finish emphasise its high-end character. The new cooling concept has been integrated seamlessly in the distinctive design and the visual emphasis has been shifted to the front, giving the new R 1200 GS an impression of increased balance and power. Meanwhile an extensive range of options make the R 1200 GS absolutely unique. With an innovative and unique LED headlamp, cross-spoke wheels and the three extensive option versions, everyone can turn this machine into their very own personal GS. Keyless Ride offers even greater convenience: this system means a mechanical key is no longer needed and you have your hands free in every situation.
One World. One R 1200 GS: the tour of a lifetime.
An unparalleled adventure. 5 riders, 5 continents, one motorcycle. To mark the launch of the R 1200 GS, BMW Motorrad started a world tour entitled “One World. One R 1200 GS.”.
The tour included stages in Laos, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe and the United States. The best moments were captured in photos and videos and are now available as a DVD. Watch this DVD and experience a motorcycle adventure around the world.
